Georgetown - Guyana, 24 to 26th February 2010

Within the framework of the process of preparation of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) to accelerate the shift towards sustainable consumption and production patterns agreed in the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation and taking into account the specific efforts which have been developed in the Caribbean region, will be made a Workshop on “Strengthening the Enabling Environment for Implementing the Sub-regional and National SCP Action Plans” will take place in Georgetown, Guyana, from 24 to 26th February 2010.

The meeting is being organized by UNEP, in collaboration with the CARICOM Secretariat. This workshop is intended to stimulate the development of national and regional SCP integration processes in the national development strategies and plans and present several tools and methodologies developed by UNEP.

Objective of the meeting

The main objectives of the meeting are to create space for the Caribbean sub-region to have a focused discussion on SCP and to assist Member States and other stakeholders in their preparation for the launching of the implementation of the 10 Year Framework Programme (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production known as the Marrakech process, as was agreed in Johannesburg in 2002.

The workshop is also intended to stimulate the development of national and regional SCP integration processes in the national development strategies and plans, and present several tools and methodologies developed by UNEP.

The output of the workshop will also feed into the upcoming Fourth International Expert Meeting of the Marrakech Process to be held in Bangkok later this year and the deliberations of the Commission for Sustainable Development meeting in New York in May 2010 and 2011.
